In April 2015, the City of Hutchinson approved Ordinance 2015-11, establishing the Rental Registration and Inspection Program (RRIP). The RRIP requires all residential rentals within Hutchinson to be registered annually with the City. All residential rental units are required to participate in an exterior inspection based upon the requirements of the International Property Maintenance Code, as modified by the City. Interior inspections are conducted if tenant consent is granted. Interior inspections are also based upon the International Property Maintenance Code.
Rental Registration is required annually. Typically, the City will send notices to landlords beginning in mid-October to advise them of renewal requirements. A registration fee is required. Please refer to the table below for current fees. All registration fees are due by December 31st of each year for registration for the following year. All rental units located within the city limits of Hutchinson are required to participate in an exterior inspection. Inspections are based upon the International Property Maintenance Code, as modified by the City. Tenants and landlords may also choose to have an interior inspection of their unit. Interior inspections for occupied units are conducted only with submission of a tenant consent form, signed by the lawful occupant of the unit.
