The Houston Whiteside National Historic District was established in 2004, but constructed more than a century prior. Named for Houston Whiteside, a prominent lawyer, the Houston Whiteside neighborhood is one of the original neighborhoods in Hutchinson. Many founding and prominent members of the City lived in the neighborhood, which was perhaps aptly nicknamed the Silk Stocking District due to the affluence of its residents. The district is home to many distinctive homes of varying architectural styles. The district works towards preserving Hutchinson’s rich history through the preservation of some of the most unique architecture in western Kansas. Don’t miss out on the rich cultural heritage of this neighborhood!
